5 Ultimate Website Launch Checklist for Magento Store
This checklist really is a common knowledge and a practise everyone should observed whether your magento site is developed by you utilizing a free theme or done by a web developer. We are astonished to stumble on many magento sites that went live without the final check.
We hope you don’t make the same mistake!

- Get rid of that dog who’s toying your notebook

If you are using a default magento theme or a free theme you found from Community Connect, chances are, that dog is still there toying your notebook in the product listing page, and in the 404 error page too. Get rid of it. - Fix your 404 error page

Another common mistake often neglected by store owner and amateur web developer. Here are snapshots of two sites we stumbled upon. Free t-shirt for cellphone gadget? Maybe! Garden of eve as pure as it gets? Only if you remove those Magento’s images and unused features.
We notified one of the above sites (twice actually!) when the owner of the site approached us about her site’s issue. Couple email exchange but she ignored this and months later it’s still there. This teaches us one thing, that helpfulness is only as good if the party you try to help willing to accept it.
- Change the demo store info in all transactional email template
-
Nothing is more embarrassing when your customer receives an order email that contains Magento logo and demo info. We made the same mistake with our lotus seeds design magento theme store when we did an upgrade and re-installation, and the customer wrote us: “Is this a joke! I almost file a chargeback when I see your email arrived”. We sure hope you don’t get such embarrassment like we did, or worse, lose a customer as a result. There are some 21 transactional email templates you need to change, and a few that the store names (Main Store or Demo Store) in the templates are not pulled from database so make sure you double check.
- Change favicon
-
We are no fan for favicon but this is something you really should change. There are favicon generators that you can use to make a favicon. Google it, bing it, yahoo it.
- Test the newsletter function

If you are going to use the Magento newsletter feature, make sure you run the send test function before anybody subscribes to your newsletter. This is because the newsletter send feature is bare bones, there isn’t a way to selectively disable certain subscribers when a newsletter sends. Though you can export your subscribers to CSV or XML, then unsubscribe the subscribers, run your test, re-import the subscribers back after making sure the newsletter sends successfully. If you go this route your subscribers will receive unsubscription message and receive a new subscription message. Not a way to go!
Trust us, you really don’t want your subscribers receive any of these.
