Our Approach for Mobile Theme
When we felt we were ready to build a solid mobile theme for Magento, the first and a critical question we asked: do we build a Magento mobile theme that works only for iPhone/iPod that acts like an App, or do we build a Magento mobile theme that works like a real website with mobile user in mind, and that it works for all advanced touchscreen smartphones with Javascript support.
It wasn't hard for us to make the right decision and get the right answer!
A Mobile version of site in addition to a desktop version
Real Simple Mobile theme is a complete Magento theme, which means you can (and should) setup up the theme as a second store, allowing your users to switch between desktop and mobile version of sites. The theme comes with a mobile detection code which will redirect the mobile device user to the mobile version of site, and the users can choose to visit desktop version if they prefer. This approach offers extra flexibility as it allows you to give your mobile store something different, e.g., a category or promotional offer for mobile user only.
Is this theme for iPad too?
We do not considered iPad a mobile device, but yes, since the Mobile theme is recommended to setup as a second store, iPad user will have a choice to switch to Mobile version of site.
The Real Simple Desktop theme is optimized for iPad. If you purchase both themes you will be able to provide a thematic consistency site for both desktop and mobile devices.
The mobile theme is not recommended for non-mobile Desktop browsers and it's not being tested thoroughly on desktop browsers especially IEs are concerned (IE9, 8, 7, and 6) . If you intend to purchase the mobile theme and use it for all desktop and mobile devices, it's not our place to tell you otherwise however please be fully aware that we entertain no support nor email enquiry to look into display and rendering issue you may see from any of the non-mobile devices' browsers.
